SUMMARY:

The 17th Article in Amendment to the federal Constitution is a significant set-back for our federalist system of government.  It effectively eliminates the ability of the states to recall their Congressional members who fail to serve the state’s interests.  Instead of being appointed by the various state legislatures, they are elected by the people in a manner that resembles that of a nationalist form of government, making it much more difficult for the people to recall federal officeholders who violate the confidence of the people.  The 17th Amendment to the federal Constitution must be repealed, reestablishing control over the members of Congress by the state legislatures.  Or, in the alternative, members of Congress must be made accountable, by law, to the people and susceptible to recall by their respective constituents.

We encourage the repeal of the 17th Amendment.

In order to protect the sovereignty of the states, the framers of the federal Constitution established a Senate thus giving the states direct representation through congress.  This was meant to provide a means for each state to protect and defend its own authority.  A senate would represent the voice of each and every state and be selected by each state’s legislature. This process was established and deemed necessary by our founding fathers to protect the independent status of each state of the Union.

The 17th Amendment to the federal Constitution, by providing for the popular vote of U.S Senators, effectively superseded the original Constitutional authority of the state legislatures and has helped silence the voice of the states.

Repealing the 17th Amendment will reestablish the voice of the states in congress and restore the balance of authority as the founders intended.

Re writing the Constitution was held in high regard by the fore fathers. The 67th congress was far from a Constitutional Congress However the marks lsft like 17th and The Federal reserve should show us that constant vigilance is required in Washington and by us as well.

Rather than rewriting our Constitution, our founding fathers were wise enough to include an amendment process in the federal Constitution. They realized that they needed a mechanism in place just in case the people felt the need to make any changes. You’re right, eternal vigilance is necessary to protect our freedoms and liberties. We must remain engaged in order that it remains a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
